About Debra

Prior to joining CapitalEdge, Debra worked in a senior leadership position with the premier local government organization in the nation – The U.S. Conference of Mayors. During her tenure with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Ms. DeHaney-Howard led in two key areas: Directing all policy, legislative and regulatory initiatives pertaining to energy issues and managing all aspects of membership relations.

In this role, Debra communicated regularly with mayors, local government leaders, federal and state governments, NGOs and the private sector to conceptualize and execute national campaigns and legislative strategies. Among her many accomplishments, Ms. DeHaney-Howard successfully led a multi-state, national grassroots advocacy campaign resulting in $3 billion commitment from the federal government to U.S. cities to develop locally-based energy efficiency programs. She also directed a series of national membership campaigns, resulting in a multi-year trajectory of growth in the organization’s revenue and membership.

Additionally, she represented the Conference and its membership at various stakeholder events, including presenting at Austria’s Technology and Smart Cities Conference in Vienna/Graz and at the United Kingdom’s Public-Private Partnership Global Summit in London.

Ms. DeHaney-Howard holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland-UC and a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from Bowie State University.
