With the House and Senate on recess this week, we focus on a few regulatory issues in today’s Monday Morning Word from Washington.

This Week in Washington:

The House and Senate are both on recess this week. The House will return on December 2, and the Senate will return on December 9.

In the News:

• The Washington Post reports that unemployment is at its lowest level in four years for 16 states.


• At 2:30pm EST today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is hosting a webinar on the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act as it related to fire hydrants (see question 5 of the Summary of the Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act Frequently asked Questions). To join the meeting register here.

• Public comments are due today, November 25, on the proposed statement on the use of giving priority  to designated Promise Zones in FY 2014 and future years for any appropriate discretionary grant program at the Department of Education.
